Curved tempered glass (also known as bent tempered glass) is produced by heating flat float glass to its softening point, precisely shaping it into a curved form using computer controlled molds, and then rapidly and uniformly cooling it with specialised equipment. The result is a safety glass that combines the architectural freedom of curved glass with the high strength and impact resistance of tempered glass.
Curved tempered glass offers 3–5 times the bending strength of ordinary bent glass. The horizontal bending and tempering process ensures consistent quality on both concave and convex surfaces, delivering clear, undistorted reflections – especially important when used as reflective glass.
Key distinction from heat bent glass: Heat bent glass cools naturally and is not classified as safety glass. Curved tempered glass, by contrast, undergoes rapid forced air quenching after forming, meeting all safety glass criteria: high impact resistance, excellent thermal stability, superior wind load resistance, and improved deflection performance.
