SEF Laminated Glass

SEF Glass is a new generation laminated safety glass

Product Details

SEF Glass is a new generation laminated safety glass from Shili Materials. Its core is the SEF interlayer, a laminating film made from polyethylene copolymer. Compared with traditional PVB film, SEF film achieves significant improvements in water absorption, weather resistance, light resistance, sound insulation, adhesion, and silicone sealant compatibility. It solves long term delamination, haze, yellowing, and customer complaint problems from the material level.

Core Features

No Delamination
Traditional PVB film has water absorption as high as 3.6 percent and easily absorbs moisture, causing delamination and haze. SEF film has water absorption below 0.01 percent, preventing moisture intrusion. Under ASTM B117-18, SEF Glass passed a 3000 hour salt spray test, equivalent to 125 years of seaside exposure, with no delamination. SEF film also has excellent compatibility with silicone sealants and will not delaminate because of sealant penetration. A railing test at Taiwan Glass Changbin Plant began in March 2017 and by June 2020 the appearance remained unchanged, further proving outdoor weather resistance.

Light Resistance
Under ANSI Z97.1, SEF laminated glass passed a 3000 hour UV test using 0.34 W per square meter at 340 nm. Haze change was plus 0.34 percent, standard no more than 0.5 percent. Visible light transmittance change was minus 0.63 percent, standard no more than 5.0 percent. Yellowing index change was plus 0.27. Color difference Delta E was plus 0.55, standard no more than 5.0. All indicators passed, showing excellent anti yellowing ability. Traditional PVB film yellowing coefficient can reach 6 to 12 percent and clearly yellows under long term sun exposure.

Noise Resistance
Based on ISO 15186 and ISO 717, the sound insulation index RW is as follows. SEF Glass with a 5 mm plus 0.8 mm plus 5 mm construction has RW 38 dB. General PVB laminated glass with a 5 mm plus 0.76 mm plus 5 mm construction has RW 35 dB. Tempered glass 5 mm has RW 33 dB. Each 1 dB increase can add 10 meters of noise blocking distance. SEF Glass has clear advantages in urban residences, roadside buildings, and high noise environments.

Adhesion
SEF film has much better peel strength than traditional PVB film on many materials. On EVA, SEF interlayer peel strength is 6.1 kg per cm and PVB is 1.3 kg per cm. On PET film, SEF is 5.1 kg per cm and PVB is 0.1 kg per cm. On PC sheet, SEF is 2.7 kg per cm. On stainless steel, SEF is 1.8 kg per cm. With this strong adhesion, SEF Glass can be made into bullet resistant glass, smart glass, LowE laminated glass, LED glass, and other functional glass.

Compatibility
SEF Glass has passed compatibility tests with major silicone sealant brands, including DOWSIL 791, 991, 798, 995, 795, and 817, SIKA HYFLEX 355 and 305AP, GE SCS 2900, and Fangcan SN101. In the test, SEF Glass with silicone sealant applied was placed in a 60 degrees Celsius oven for up to 5 months and checked for bubbles or delamination. No abnormalities were found, proving reliable construction compatibility.

Key Parameters
SEF film uses polyethylene copolymer raw material, while PVB film uses polyvinyl butyral. SEF film is thermosetting, while PVB film is thermoplastic. Forming temperature is 75 to 110 degrees Celsius for SEF and 140 degrees Celsius for PVB. Production time is 10 to 15 minutes for SEF and 4 hours for PVB. Visible light transmittance is 90 percent for SEF and at least 88 percent for PVB. Water absorption is below 0.01 percent for SEF and 3.6 percent for PVB. Tensile strength is 339 kg per square cm for both. Yellowing coefficient is below 1 percent for SEF and 6 to 12 percent for PVB. Outdoor weather resistance is good for SEF and ordinary for PVB. Warranty is 7 years for SEF and 0 years for PVB.

Certifications and Patents
SEF laminated glass has obtained patents in Taiwan, Japan, and China. It has also passed certifications including SGCC 201901, Taiwan CNS1183, Europe ISO 12543, US ANSI Z97.1, CPSC 16 CFR 1201-12, and China GB15763.3.

Applications
SEF Glass is suitable for building curtain walls and skylights, glass railings, balcony guards, stair handrails, aluminum window glass, sliding doors, interior partitions, office partitions, shower rooms, bathroom glass, bullet resistant glass, smart glass, LowE energy saving glass, LED glass, bus stops, canopies, and medical facilities.
