Soundproof Laminated Glass

Shandong Yaohua's soundproof laminated glass is a high-performance architectural glazing product built around a simple acoustic principle: damping, not just mass. Two or more glass panes are permanently bonded with a PVB or SGP interlayer under high temperature and pressure, creating a monolithic unit that resists breakage while its viscoelastic core absorbs and dissipates sound-wave energy that would otherwise pass through the glass. HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT CONFIGURATION

Acoustic glazing is not a one-thickness-fits-all product. Three variables drive real-world performance:

Interlayer type: standard PVB vs. acoustic PVB vs. SGP

Standard PVB already improves acoustic performance over monolithic glass by damping the coincidence resonance that plagues single panes. Acoustic PVB, a multilayer PVB engineered specifically for sound damping, goes further. Acoustic PVB consistently outperforms standard PVB at equal thickness. SGP (ionoplast) offers the highest stiffness and post-break integrity and is the preferred choice where acoustic performance must be combined with blast, hurricane, or security requirements. Asymmetric glass thickness

Using two different glass thicknesses, for example 6 mm + 8 mm rather than 6 mm + 6 mm, shifts the coincidence dip frequencies of each pane so they no longer align, broadening the effective sound reduction band. For IGUs, asymmetrical glass thicknesses are a proven strategy to suppress resonance effects without adding weight. Yaohua's acoustic laminated lines are configured to run asymmetric make-ups as standard.

Air gap and IGU integration

When laminated glass is combined into an insulating glass unit, the air space introduces a second acoustic mechanism - mass-spring-mass decoupling - but only if the gap exceeds roughly 12 mm. Yaohua's IGU lines support 6 - 20 mm gaps with optional inert gas fill. For high-noise environments, acoustic laminated IGUs such as 6.8 mm acoustic laminate + 16 mm gap + 6 mm glass commonly reach STC 42 - 45. For the most demanding facade projects, Yaohua's triple-laminated IGUs can exceed 40 dB while maintaining Low-E thermal performance, with K-values as low as 0.4 - 1.8 W/m2K.

Selection shortcut: For moderate traffic noise, start with a standard laminated IGU such as 6+12A+6.6 acoustic PVB. For arterial roads, rail, or aircraft noise, move to asymmetric acoustic laminated IGUs such as 6.8+16A+8 or triple-laminated configurations. For projects combining acoustics with security or extreme wind load, specify SGP interlayers.
